Hi, my name is Ben.

I have over 20 years of experience on the NZ roads (including many years of driving tour coaches) and as a Defensive Driving Course provider, I can confidently say that I have immense knowledge to pass to my students.

I’m passionate about my teaching work and enjoy the challenges involved in coaching all age groups. I am proud to be able to do my bit by preparing the future generation to be safer drivers as I see many “seasoned” drivers with bad and dangerous habits on the road. I feel very rewarded when I see my students performing well and going on to pass their tests.

I’m easy-going and make my students feel at ease behind the wheel. Each student is unique and therefore each lesson will vary and be tailored according to the individual.

My aim is not only to help young people pass their driving tests but also to assist them in achieving the ultimate goal of becoming safe drivers on the roads. If we plan your learning journey well, I believe I can set you up for safe driving habits for life!

When I started to work with Mr. Ben Hu, I only had basic driving skills (Although I could move the car around with someone assisting me, I knew that I was not a good and safe driver yet).
Though I studied the road code when preparing for my learning, it was difficult for me to apply it in a driving conditions while paying attention to the traffic around me. Due to Mr. Ben Hu's teaching style, I was able to acquire the skills required to become a good and safe driver.
During all the lessons we have had, Mr. Ben Hu carefully watched and assessed my ability to properly perform the skills required to be a good and safe driver (checking around, indicating, choosing gaps in traffic, speed choice, following distance, road position, etc.). When I was making a mistake, he was always trying to understand its origin (why I made it) and once identified, he would thoroughly explain why what I did was wrong, what I should have done instead and the potential issue the error I have made may cause to me or other drivers.
We would only move to the next topic when he was sure that I have mastered/understood the previous one. Moreover, whenever he noticed that I was unable to understand something, we were pulling over and he was taking the road code to explain it to me. Then, we were going back on the road to practice again.
Thanks to his teaching method, patience, and advice I was able to progress, and as soon as he noticed that I was ready to sit the test, he advised me to make a booking. I did as he said and I confidently sat the restricted driver's license test and I passed.

To summarize in three words my learning experience with Mr. Ben Hu, I would say: HELPFUL - INSTRUCTIVE - VALUABLE.
