Has experience teaching students with learning difficulties

Hi, I’m Jay.

My background includes over 20 years’ experience in Transport and Customer Service; from freight to driving buses in the Manawatu/Whanganui region. In my driving career, I have been, and will continue to be regularly assessed and have licence classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, D, P, I1, I2, F, R, T, W.

I enjoy encouraging self-improvement and building confidence. I’m curious about how people learn, and I enjoy adapting. I remain calm and composed and know I’m a steady influence behind the wheel.

I’ve had a couple of students with autism. I recognise the importance of allowing extra time for skills to click and to be patient with all learning styles.

I am and will always be on the learning journey of driving. I prioritise teamwork and consider myself to be an equal with students, only on a different stage of the driving journey; I like to pass my many years of knowledge on!

Being a Driving Instructor with the AA has been a very rewarding part of my career and I understand how important the decisions we make behind the wheel affect road safety for all.

Jay is an amazing driving instructor. I was quite nervous about starting my driving journey, but he made me feel at ease from the very first class. He provides clear and detailed instructions, often using visuals and examples to ensure I fully understand. What stands out most is his patience, he never loses his calm, no matter the situation, and always takes the time to explain things thoroughly and repeatedly .He never makes you feel bad about making errors and guides you through it. Thanks to his guidance learning to drive has been a much smoother and more positive experience than I expected.
