Has experience teaching people with learning difficulties

Hi, my name is Mike.

After a long career with the New Zealand Police, I have seen many decisions made by drivers that led to often tragic life-changing outcomes. So, with over 30 years policing experience and now a year into driving instructing, the ability to travel safely on our roads has never been more important.

I decided to retrain and join the driver training community to give back and help build safer drivers. Instructing is a privilege and it’s rewarding when I see competent, safer driving skills in drivers of all experience grow. Most employment roles in New Zealand need drivers and it’s life-changing being able to gain the independence that driving offers.

In my lessons, I like to push students out of their comfort zone (when I see they’re ready) and I help them grow by providing open and honest feedback on how they’re doing. I am patient, encouraging and above all else: calm.

I’m looking forward to teaching you how to drive, the AA way.

I’ve had Mike teaching me to drive since I got my learners in February. During that time, he has taught me how to make safe choices and decisions while challenging me when I was ready. Today I sat my restricted and passed first try all thanks to Mike. I highly recommend Mike to any parent who wants to set their teenager up with a good start on their driving journey.
