Hello, my name is Yi.

I’m originally from China, but I have been in NZ for over 20 years. My major in university is in finance, but after graduating, I started my career as a driving instructor. For the past 10 years, I have gained extensive experience in teaching and have received many good testimonials.

I create a relaxing, fun environment so that my students can learn fast without too much pressure. I teach my students to understand what it takes to be a safe and risk-aware driver for the life span of their driving journey; particularly to help them respond appropriately to any challenges on our roads. I give personalised plans to every new student and I will adapt my teaching methods to suit every student as well.

Working with people and helping others to achieve their goals has always been my passion. I get so much satisfaction when I hear my students have got their driver license and have the ability to drive safely for life.

I have been taking driving lessons with Yi for six months, and I consider him nothing short of a Grand Master when it comes to teaching a beginner how to drive. I started with zero experience, and with just one session on a weekly basis, Yi helped me make tangible progress from day one. His calm demeanor and ability to explain concepts in clear, simple terms make learning both accessible and enjoyable. Mistakes are addressed step-by-step, ensuring the learning process is smooth and stress-free. What stands out most to me is Yi’s mastery of progression. He structures each lesson—and the journey as a whole—so that complexity is introduced gradually, always pushing the student just to the edge of their current ability. This balance is essential for building skill and confidence. Yi also knows how to modulate the pace of learning within each session and from one cycle to the next. He understands when to push forward and when to ease off, ensuring that each phase of learning consolidates before moving on. This thoughtful approach to progression has been key to my development as a driver.
